George "Skivy" Stankus   

 Skivy entered boot camp on September 6, 1950, at the Great Lakes Training Center.  After boot camp, he was assigned to duty at the amphibious base at Coronado, California, for small assault boat training.  On December 26, 1950, he reported aboard the USS LST 1148.  He remained aboard until June 6, 1954, at which time he was transferred to a separation center in Sasebo, Japan, pending discharge.

    After discharge on July 30, 1954, he enrolled at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.  He worked for Amoco Oil Company for 33 years.  Skivy was married for 36 years to the love his life "Kitty," who recently passed away. They had one son, Tim.

    Skivy is a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and also the American Cribbage Congress.  He enjoys playing cards, fishing, and "shooting the breeze" with his lifelong friends, his ex-shipmates.
